SHIFT

SHIFT is a collaboration between local schools, employers, and the Dickinson Area Economic Development Alliance to raise awareness of career paths in the professional trades.

The Dickinson County area is home to many manufacturers, construction contractors, and healthcare providers that keep our economy healthy and make it a great place to live.

What is SHIFT?

Our goal with SHIFT is to raise awareness of well-paying careers that are attainable for students right after high school graduation.

Careers in the professional trades offer job security, competitive wages, and less debt.

Those working in the professional trades play a crucial role in the health of our local economy. These individuals have produced world-class products, built structures from factories to ski jumps, and provided first-rate healthcare for our neighbors.

The best jobs are here, in Dickinson County.

These highly professional individuals are in extraordinary demand for careers in healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing, construction and automotive.

Manufacturing Day

Each October, we bring together students and area employers to shift perceptions about what it means to work in the professional trades upon graduating high school.

Healthcare Career Day

In February, students learn from area employers about working in the healthcare field in the Dickinson area.

Manufacturing Day and Healthcare Career Day are two opportunities for students to explore aspects of working in the professional trades. Students also learn about the dual enrollment educational paths through the Dickinson-Iron ISD Tech Center and Bay College.

Skilled Trade Career Path Magazine

This magazine is updated annually and is a resource for students, parents, and guidance counselors. It is designed to be used while planning classes in high school so students can take advantage of dual-enrollment and early college. This magazine also provides useful information on classes to take so graduates are prepared to enter the workforce or continue their education in the skilled trades.
