SHIFT Professional Trades Careers
SHIFT is a collaboration between local schools, employers, and the Dickinson Area Economic Development Alliance to raise awareness of career paths in the professional trades.
The Dickinson County area is home to many manufacturers, construction contractors, and healthcare providers that keep our economy healthy and make it a great place to live.
What is SHIFT?
Our goal with SHIFT is to raise awareness of well-paying careers that are attainable for students right after high school graduation.
Careers in the professional trades offer job security, competitive wages, and less debt.
Those working in the professional trades play a crucial role in the health of our local economy. These individuals have produced world-class products, built structures from factories to ski jumps, and provided first-rate healthcare for our neighbors. The best jobs are here, in Dickinson County.
These highly professional individuals are in extraordinary demand for careers in healthcare, information technology, advanced manufacturing, construction and automotive.
Manufacturing Day
Each October, area ninth graders gather to learn about careers in manufacturing. This year marks the return to hosting this event in person. Follow along on our social media channels to learn about local opportunities and to hear from the students.
Skilled Trade Career Paths through the DIISD Tech Center and Bay College Iron Mountain
Our local schools, through the Dickinson-Iron ISD Tech Center, offer hands-on learning for students throughout high school. In collaboration with Bay College Iron Mountain, they offer dual enrollment and early college programs where students can gain skills and college credit while still in high school.
Learn more about these opportunities in our 2024 Skilled Trade Career Paths Magazine.
